Berlin- Capital of the German singles

Berlin- Capital of the German singles

Berlin- Capital of the German singles

After the reunification in 1990 Berlin became residence of the Federal Government.
Berlin, Capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, is located at the heart of Europe and also, after EU enlargement in 2004, at the centre of the European Community. With about 3,400,000 inhabitants, Berlin is the largest City in Germany

Life in Berlin

Some call it wild, colorful, and full of surprises, while others find it a little too hectic and gruff. Berlin is intriguing because it is so versatile and so multi-faceted. Differences are more extreme, conflicts more tangible, and problems larger than they are elsewhere. Yet even Berlin's contradictions are part of its appeal.

Berlin is addictive

According to many who've tried it, Berlin is addictive. The city offers residents and visitors alike an almost inexhaustible variety of possible activities - from a multitude of everyday options to huge events like Christopher Street Day and the Carnival of Cultures. Regular sports highlights include the track and field festival ISTAF and the Berlin Marathon, which draws tens of thousands of runners every year.

Nightlife

Don't forget the cafes, bars, and restaurants in every price category, featuring international and local specialties. The neighborhood around Hackescher Markt is especially popular in this regard, while an impression of Berlin would be incomplete without a trip to the districts of Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg or Kreuzberg. The city's night life tempts visitors with countless bars, discos, and clubs - which can stay open all night if they like - and with exhibitions and open-air events. Here, too, in the midst of the latest international trends, you can feel the city's exceptional vitality and dynamism.

New York City

Mayor Bloomberg announced on Dec. 27,2006 that an estimated 44 million people from around the country and the world visited New York City in 2006. This total surpasses the 41 million tourists that were estimated to have visited the City in 2005 at this time last year. It also tops the 43 million tourists projected to visit in 2006 at the beginning of the year, and represents a major step towards the City's goal of attracting 50 million tourists by 2015.

Big Apple

New York City has five boroughs - the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island - that are linked by a series of bridges, tunnels, and ferries. Manhattan is an island; the Bronx is north of Manhattan and on the mainland; Queens and Brooklyn are on the Western tip of Long Island, which stretches east into the Atlantic Ocean. NY is the largest city of U.S. with around 13 million inhabitants.

Getting around

Getting around New York City is a breeze, thanks to 3,700 buses, 714 miles of subways, 12,000 taxis and limousines, and countless feeder roads. There are also ferries, helicopters, bicycles, and frequent Amtrak and commuter rail service. And don't forget your feet! NYC is a walking city - flat and much of it on a grid.

Unique

No place else is quite like New York. Simply stated, we have more of the best to delight and entertain than anywhere in the world: 150 world-class museums, 18,000 restaurants of all types and price ranges, scores of Broadway theaters, and an unbelievable array of shopping. And no other city has such a diversity of people and cultures. Where else can you see Chinese dragon dancers, Caribbean stilt dancers, and Moroccan belly dancers in the same day? Where else can you hurl darts in an Irish pub and then try your skill on a Neapolitan bocce court right down the street? Are there other places where you can sway to a reggae beat on your way to hear a German opera? Or go from a room full of Dutch Old Master paintings to one filled with cutting-edge fashion? And where else in the world can you lunch on Japanese sushi and enjoy hearty Brazilian feijoada for dinner? Welcome to New York, where the possibilities are endless.
Enjoy!
